Curriculum | |||||||
The curriculum has been organized so that the students can start out the study of professional discipline of architecture just after their admission to the university. The curriculum includes basic subjects for architectonics such as mathematics and physics, English education by foreign architects, basic theory of modern architecture, history and transition of Japanese or worldfs architecture etc.The syllabus for the last subjects mentioned above is planned to include site visits to Kyoto, Nara and foreign countries. A full-fledged exercise program is provided such as figurative arts using CAD or basic space representation using drawings or paper-made models.
The professional education has two types of subjects, i.e. the Theory subject and the Practical. Wide-ranging knowledge of architecture required for an architect or an architect engineer is learned in the theory subjects, while the technical aspect such as environment and building construction is learned in parallel with the practical subjects so as the student can experience specific phenomena through experiments where it is available. Implementing well-balanced curriculum that helps learners to understand the theories experientially through practices, further learning efficiency is pursued
The campus for the Architectural Department and the Graduate School of Architecture is at Kamikoshien Campus (Koshien Hall). All the lectures of the basic subjects and the professional education subjects (Theory/Practical) of the department are given at Koshien Campus in principle. As a general rule, the lectures of Theory subjects are given in the morning, and that of the Practical, in the afternoon, which allows students to have ample time for creative activities. Also a better part of the total hours of the instruction is allocated for the practical activities. In this way, a high level practical education is realized to meet the educational policy in the UIA/UNESCO Accord on Recommended International Standards of Professionalism in Architectural Practice. In addition, the Kami-koshien Campus accommodates a studio that has drawing tables of private-use as well as the library, the dining room and the kiosk which are available outside of school hours. |
